My Community: CAWLM 80s Flashback Fundraiser

CAWLM hosted our third Annual 80s Flashback Fundraiser at the University Club on Saturday, March 23. Guests sported their best 80s outfits while they enjoyed fabulous food and beverages and danced the night away to a live performance by Starfarm. A portion of the proceeds were donated to the Lansing Promise. CAWLM also presented Desirae Kelley-Kato with our “Caring About Women Locally” Award.

My Community: Maple Syrup Festival

On Saturday, March 16, all ages gathered together at Fenner Nature Center in Lansing for their annual Maple Syrup Festival. On this chilly day there were demonstrations of syrup-making processes, taste testing of maple products, maple syrup and other products to purchase and interactive exhibits. Visitors also supported Fenner Conservancy, the nonprofit that manages the nature center, by indulging in all-you-can-eat flapjacks and sausage.

My Community: Big Bang-Quet

The University Club and 20 local nonprofit charities gathered on Tuesday, March 19 for the results of the second Annual Big Bang-Quet. Each charity received 90 percent of the money earned through voting. In addition, the top three winners received $10,000, $5,000 or $2,500 credit toward a fundraising event at the University Club. The Boys & Girls Club of Lansing came out on top receiving $10,000; Haven House came in second place receiving $5,000 and Child & Family Charities received $2,500. Read more [...]

My Community: White Rose Gala

The third annual White Rose Gala took place on Wednesday, March 6 at the Huntington Club on the campus of Michigan State University (MSU). An Athena Award for organizational leadership was presented to Edge Partnerships and an Athena Award for young professional leadership was presented to former MSU women’s basketball player, fashion designer and founder of the Aitch Foundation, Laruen Aitch.

My Community: Homeless No More

On Wednesday, Feb.13, hundreds gathered at East Lansing’s Eagle Eye Golf Club to support the Volunteers of America Michigan. The Homeless No More fundraiser, as it was called, included rousing speeches, a poignant video and a live auction. At the end of the night, it was apparent that everyone had a great time. More importantly, a fantastic organization was recognized and it looks like they will hit their fundraising goal of $210,000.

My Community: MSUFCU Student Art Exhibit VIP Event

On Friday, Feb. 1 students from area high schools gathered with their parents, art teachers, business owners and other community members for the VIP kick-off event of the MSU Federal Credit Union Student Art Exhibit. The artworks were featured in the lobby of MSUFCU headquarters during the month of February with awards going to the People’s Choice and juried pieces.

My Community: Girls on the Run Kick-off

On Sunday, Feb. 10, girls from Ingham and Shiawassee counties gathered with their parents at Playmakers in Okemos for the Girls on the Run kick-off event. Girls on the Run inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Participating girls received a T-shirt, a goodie bag and a pair of shoes.

On Thursday, Jan. 24 Capital Area Women’s LifeStyle Magazine hosted our first-ever Cover Star Party. Women, previously featured on the cover of the CAWLM, were invited to stop by our office for an enjoyable evening to celebrate the 5 year anniversary of the magazine. From 6-8 p.m., familiar faces with their guests gathered for appetizers, cocktails and conversation.

My Community: ePIFany Now

Hundreds of community members gather on Sunday, Feb. 17 at the MSU Federal Credit Union Headquarters in East Lansing for the latest ePIFany Now party. The group was given simple suggestions of how to Pass It Forward in the community and then asked to go out and do so. Later in the day everyone returned to share their stories.
