A Closet in Bloom

When the words “floral” and “fashion” went out in an email to the Capital Area Women’s LifeStyle Magazine staff, the whole office just got happy. Before we knew what was happening we were sharing photos of our favorite floral pieces and giving tips on how we style them. Since this month’s theme is Beauty in Bloom, we figured we’d take our love of floral and share it with our readers. Here, three CAWLM staff members show off their favorite floral piece and how they plan to wear it this spring. Virginia Bernero, Communications Specialist I love floral patterns because they’re colorful. Mixing and matching my pieces makes it easier to cope with the ever-changing Michigan weather. I found this jacket on one of my frequent online shopping sprees, which I have accompanied with skinnys as well as this thrifted skirt. The shirt underneath can also vary, depending on what colors I want to highlight from the jacket. I’ve paired it with a simple gold chain and flats for work or play. Lisa Twenter, Art Director When I saw these floral jeans, I had to have them. Being made from Liberty London fabrics, this particular floral pattern is perfectly intricate and colorful. Because I’m not all that interested in attracting swarms of honey bees, I usually pair these jeans with an understated neutral top. To complete the look, I’ll add a distinct floral necklace. Ami Iceman, Brand Manager I have always been a fan of floral – I just never know how much is too much. I combat my will to dress in head to toe floral by picking just one fabulous floral piece and pairing it with more subdued but complementary pieces. This trick works for almost every printed piece in my closet, especially this colorful cinched top from Target that I paired with an open weave mint cardigan and skinny capris from Kohl’s. The flower ring and brown flats from Marshalls complete the look.
