PIFanyNow is a nonprofit organization focused on starting a revolution of kindness. The concept behind ePIFanyNow is to motivate individuals to positively impact other’s lives. The world can sometimes seem overrun with stress and negativity, so ePIFanyNow works to bring people together to make a difference, even if it doesn’t cost a cent. “We encourage people to help others all year round,” says Bob Hoffman, founder of ePIFanyNow. “We hand out cards for people to pass on to others to continue the good will.” Hoffman came up with the idea of ePIFanyNow, on his way home from work one afternoon. Someone cut him off on the highway, which set of a stream of frustrated thoughts. As he sat in traffic dwelling on the incident he decided to switch his mindset from angry to generous. He imagined giving the guy, who could have potentially ruined his day, $100 instead. The simple act of changing his mindset brought him joy. As Hoffman drove home he couldn’t help but think how sharing positivity and doing nice things for strangers, when people are having a terrible day or going through challenging times, could change their day — or life. “We started this in 2009,” says Hoffman. “We are a grassroots movement, with no religious or political affiliations, endeavoring to create positive change throughout our community and beyond. Once people got started, they liked it so much that they wanted to come back and do more.” The mission of ePIFanyNow is to create a revolution of positive, transformational experiences through acts of kindness. Once a year, ePIFanyNow holds a Pass It Forward event. The event groups people together and pairs them with one of 100 giving ideas (as well as ideas provided by those who participate) and sends them out to accomplish the task they were given. Each group records the act through pictures or video and spreads joy throughout the community. Pass it Forward is not about bragging or promotion, it’s about spreading positivity and helpfulness. Next year’s Pass It Forward event is going to take place at the MSU Federal Credit Union headquarters on May 3, 2015 from 1 to 5 p.m. To learn more, visit epifanynow.org.
