Fanning the Flames of Fashion
We here at Capital Area Women’s LifeStyle Magazine love a good challenge — especially when the challenge involves shopping.
So when our Art Director suggested that a few of us buy and style a piece of clothing in fall’s hottest new color — Vibrant Flame — we jumped at the chance. Take a look at how Managing Editor, Emily Caswell, Production Manager, Julie Becker, and Art Director, Lisa Twenter, make the flame work for us.
Vibrant Flame for the Arsonphobic by Julie Becker
I’ll admit, this one was a challenge. I don’t usually stray from my recommended jewel- and-earth-tone palettes. However, the color is everywhere this season … so, I resigned to one of two options: try it in a pattern or try it on the cheap. I found this blouse for 50 percent off the clearance price. At $4.50, it was almost worth the risk. I paired it with neutral accessories to keep my image consultant’s head from exploding in (vibrant) flames. All in all, the perfect fall outfit.
Blouse, Old Navy, Originally $24.98; Jeans, Style & Co. available at Macy’s, $40; Necklace, Haskell available at Macy’s, $30; Flats, Franco Sarto available at DSW, $69.95
Full on Flame by Emily Caswell
In the vein of Go Big or Go Home when I was told to do vibrant flame, I did it all the way. As someone who just can’t say “no” to pattern I gave the look some pizzazz with these leopard print bootie wedges. I topped off the look with lots of gold — a necklace and a pile of bangles, including the black one with pops of more vibrant flame. I plan to add tights and a wrap when the temps drop.
Dress by Mossimo, available at Target, $24.99 (I paid $18); Shoes from Forever 21, $24.99; Bangles available at Target, $16.99; Wrap, tights and necklace, my own.
Getting Warmer… by Lisa Twenter
The first time I laid my eyes on this color this season, I was obsessed. I hardly ever find a lot of it in one place; instead, I find this color used perfectly as accents in otherwise neutral-toned, fall outfits. I couldn’t resist going a little over-the-top, pumping up a white, silk blouse and black heels with a vibrant flame pant.
To play up the edginess, I chose to complete the look with a chunky, tortoise-shell necklace and a skinny leopard-print belt. This bright, yet professional and put-together ensemble is sure to heat up the office.
Silk blouse, $98; Stretch twill Minnie pant, $79.50; Link necklace, $29.50; Leopard-print belt, $60; All available at J. Crew. Black pumps, Madden Girl, available at DSW, $39.95.
