Neighbors

All–night parties, buff dudes hosting weekly barbecues and barley dressed college co–eds running around. Yup, that pretty much sums up a typical frat house. Wasn’t so bad when you were in college, but picture that scene happening right next door to your brand new home that you share with your wife and baby. That’s exactly the situation Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly Radner (Rose Byrne) find themselves in, in the new comedy Neighbors. Along with Rogen and Byrne the movie stars Zac Efron, who plays typical frat boy Teddy Sanders and Dave Franco, who plays a wee bit more sophisticated frat boy Pete. At first, Rogen and his wife try to be cool and hang out, reliving a bit of their glory days. Soon enough, however, they find that partying every night doesn’t work with a baby and a career. Things escalate and hijinks ensue back and forth between the frat and the couple, ultimately leading to a show down in which one neighbor has to leave. The acting in Neighbors is alright, Rogen plays the same dopey guy he plays in every movie, just a little more grown up. There’s nothing really noticeable about anybody else. And while a lot of the most laugh–out–loud scenes were in the trailer, there were still a few new jokes to be enjoyed on the big screen. I would say this is the best comedy of the summer so far. But it’s directed toward more college or people around that age. It contains a lot of drug humor and some nudity, so just to be warned. If you’re looking for a laugh this week, this is the movie for you.
