P Squared: Wine & Dine Your Valentine
Are you in the mood for an intimate evening? How about going someplace a little bit sexy? P Squared in downtown Lansing is a good place to start.
P Squared is looking to make a name for itself with the wine lover. I think it can do so for all lovers. Whether already committed or looking for your next adventure in amore, this spot has plenty to offer.
If we are discussing people, it’s low lighting and cozy atmosphere is perfect for date night. However, if you are single and looking to mingle, P Squared’s downtown locale and selection of 100 different wines are a sure bet to bring in plenty of the local talent.
As for the wine, love a certain grape, go for it. With such an extensive wine list, something is sure to please your palate. Not sure what you are looking for? Take one of P Squared wine flights and expose yourself to new sensory adventures. With names like “The Blindfold,” “Something Foxy” and “Gentleman Prefer Blondes,” these flights appear to aim you in the right direction for romance.
P Squared has made an effort to create a menu that complements its wine choices. First and foremost … cheese. Eleven choices are available served with bread, olives and nuts. This is the perfect way to enjoy your wine and the company of your choice. The menu continues to be directed toward nibbling and sharing. Nothing is fussy, just made to be pleasing and easy.
In addition to the cheese, there is charcuterie, small plates, bigger plates, a few salads and pasta bowls. I believe the pasta bowls are included just so they can offer Chicken Bacon Macaroni, because, who wouldn’t want to include that?
My experience with P Squared consisted of “The Blindfold” wine flight, a cheese plate, Pepperoncini Roast Beef Sliders and their BBQ Beef Nachos.
The wine flight was wonderful. I received a Rose, a Chardonnay, a Cabernet and a Zinfandel, all on the bartender’s whim. Now if I were cooler I would tell you all about the wine. I am not. I consider myself a wine conni-sewer (not to be confused with “connoisseur”). I’ll drink anything, so go and learn for yourself. They give you cheat sheets.
The cheese plate rocked. You know my boyfriend is cheese. We had lovely, creamy brie, locally-made Michigan cheddar and an aggressive blue. All the accoutrements added to the effect. I especially loved the nut selection.
The Pepperoncini Roast Beef Sliders were good. I was somewhat surprised by the serving. Each slider was petite, as sliders are, but there were a million on our plate. Not that I am complaining, I am just saying. P Squared really believes in the sharing aspect of their menu. Anyway, the sliders had roast beef, pepperoncinis, mozzarella, artichokes and tomatoes served with a horseradish dipping sauce. In other words, they were not subtle in flavor. My taste buds were dancing.
Our server didn’t slow down with the arrival of the BBQ Beef Nachos. These too were not for the faint of heart. The chips were piled high with tender BBQ beef, cheddar, gorgonzola, sautéed peppers, fire roasted salsa, sour cream and guacamole. They were fantastic, but very intense in flavor. My guess is their hummus platter or artichoke and parmesan dip may be a choice for those looking for a milder culinary evening.
Now by this point I was looking for sexy desserts. P Squared offers molten lava cake, cheesecake, tiramisu, etc. I would have loved to have ended my evening with a silky treat or a lovely port, but I was unable to. That will have to be on my next trip.
I know my next wine flight is “D is for Danger.” I am sure I will share it with my boyfriend cheese. He loves me and I loved P Squared.
