For each of her16 years of working for Eaton Rapids Public Schools as the Transportation Director, Joy DeJongh has made it her mission to create a safe transportation experience for all students. “Working with the staff that I have makes me very proud,” said DeJongh. “Everyone that I work with is top notch. Our goal is to transport our kids safely, and we do that everyday.” With no two work days the same, DeJongh is constantly kept on her toes. “I’m up early, I’m in the office early and I stay at the office late, you just never know what will happen in between,” she said. After the polar vortex this past winter, DeJongh was constantly up by 3 a.m. and out on the roads to determine if driving conditions were safe enough for the Eaton Rapids students and staff. “We had to watch the roads non-stop this winter,” said DeJongh. Even through the rough winter weather, DeJongh still continues to love coming to work each and every day. When she isn’t in the office, this grandmother of four loves to crochet and go camping with her family. “I feel very blessed by the group of people in my department, I have the best of the best and I couldn’t do it without them,” she added.
