Local Women: Joan Tichvon

Earlier this year, Joan Tichvon was able to check an important item off of her bucket list — owning a business. As the owner of Cheeky Monkeys Coffee House and Bakery in Portland, Tichvon brings a fresh twist to the downtown scene. “(Owning a venue) is something that I dreamt of doing since I was a little girl,” Tichvon said, and after making her ownership of Cheeky Monkeys official in June of this year, her dream became a reality. “I’ve always loved coffee … (and) there’s always someone to meet with a story,” she said. Tichvon’s adventurous spirit led her to make the leap from manager at an insurance agency to small business owner. As a Portland-native and current resident, Tichvon has a passion for the city “A good sense of community will keep downtown Portland (alive),” she said. It’s no surprise that Cheeky Monkeys coffee keeps her going — in more ways than one.“I’m living my dream. It’s a lot of work, but I love it because I get to promote family and spend more time with my kids.”
