Local Women: Melissa Ford Lucken

Melissa Ford Lucken became a Professor of Writing at Lansing Community College about 13 years ago after spending several years in Tutoring Services, but she’s not just all about her job. Ford Lucken also loves distance cycling, gardening, collecting rare books and spending time with her family. Besides her family — husband Walter and sons Walter and Collin — Ford Lucken’s biggest love is stories. “(I like) anything that sends the character into a new world and pushes them to be more than they thought they ever could be,” she said. “I also like anything that challenges me to learn new things about writing and storytelling. Or anything I think readers will enjoy.” Ford Lucken even writes her own short stories and novels under the pen name “Isabelle Drake.” Teaching at LCC allows her to help beginning novelists learn to continue their novel writing and hopefully get some information about publishing.
