Director/Owner at Governmental Consultant Services, Inc. When Nell Kuhnmuench was faced with her next career move, she considered the field of lobbying. “I’m a competitive person and I saw that men were making a nice living lobbying,” says Kuhnmuench. “They didn’t seem to break a sweat and I figured I could do that.” As Director at Governmental Consultant Services, Inc., a multi-client contract firm, Kuhnmuench lobbies for an array of issues such as environmental, insurance, health care, legal, corporate and financial. Her days are filled with political fundraisers, Senate sessions, committee hearings, talking with other lobbyists, talking with legislature, and so on. “Every day brings different clients and issues. It’s fun and challenging,” says Kuhnmuench. She was voted twice as Michigan’s most effective female lobbyist and is one of three women staffed at Governmental Consultant Services, Inc. “As a woman lobbyist, I believe we need to do a better job mentoring other women in the field,” she says. Kuhnmuench also serves on the East Lansing School Board and was the recipient of the 2010 ATHENA award. “I was humbled and overwhelmed to receive this tremendous honor,” says Kuhnmuench. “The award has such a history and meaning behind it. I’ll carry in my heart always.”
