LANSING — $4,500 was donated to the Lansing City Rescue Mission Family Center for women and children today on behalf of the Capital Area Women’s LifeStyle Magazine 2011 Lady Classic golf outing. Capital Area Women’s LifeStyle Magazine (CAWLM) Publisher Tiffany Dowling presented the check to Lansing City Rescue Mission (LCRM) Director Mark Criss in a ceremony held at the Family Center. “I could not be happier to present Mark and the Lansing City Rescue Mission Family Center with this donation,” said Dowling. “We are so proud to host an event that raises money for such a deserving cause.” This is the third consecutive year the Lady Classic has benefited the LCRM Family Center. To date CAWLM has raised more than $11,000 for the non-profit. This year more than 140 women gathered on Thursday, Sept. 15 at Timber Ridge Golf Course to participate in the Lady Classic. Along with a portion of entry fees and sponsorship dollars, all of the money raised during the event through various activities, including the celebrity caddy auction, went directly to LCRM. “We raised a record amount of money for the Mission this year thanks to the generosity of our sponsors as well as the women and men in our community,” added Dowling. This year’s Lady Classic was presented by Independent Bank. The money raised for the mission this year will help to fund the purchase of the Skills Tutor program at the shelter, which will aid women who wish to complete their GED or high school diploma. The online, self-study curriculum will be available primarily to long-term guests of the shelter. The total cost for the program is $7,500, but can be purchased in increments. Next year’s CAWLM Lady Classic is set for Thursday, Sept. 20. Visit www.cawlm.com, or call 517.203.0123 to learn more.
