7th Annual Capital Area Humane Society Fur Ball: A Furry Tail Evening

Transforming Eagle Eye Gold Club into an enchanted forest is no easy task. But that is exactly what transpired Saturday evening, April 17, 2010. Vases of twisty branches covered with pink blooms and crystals sat atop tables of chocolate linen with apple green silky toppers. So beautiful, you might have sworn you were in an enchanted forest.

Those of you who know me or have read my articles in the past know that both my husband, Ira, and I have a passion for animals. The 2010 Fur Ball was the best ever. This fabulous evening was generously supported and attended by 350 community members, making it also the largest Fur Ball to date. The pampered pooch parade, always a highlight of the evening, included 49 dogs and was featured on the big screens in the dining room.

The special guest this year was Tasche, the celebrity poster pet for the 2010 Fur Ball — yes, for the first time ever, the Fur Ball welcomed a beautiful cat. I hope he attends again next year, he was a wonderful addition.

Also a first, Three Men and a Tenor provided the musical entertainment. What a show!

The evening is, of course, a major fundraiser for the Capital Area Humane Society. Everyone who attends is there to support the animals that come to the shelter in need of loving permanent homes. Because they have no voice of their own, they depend on the kindness of strangers. I want you to know that our community is kind and caring. To all of you who gave to the Special Care Fund; purchased a silent or live auction item; donated an item for the auction; purchased tickets or sponsored a table; all the businesses and generous individuals who helped sponsor the event: you made a difference. Thank you.
