My Community: Umbrellas in April

Share!

Downtown Williamston was crowded with families and friends hoisting open umbrellas into the air — and not because it was raining. During the Umbrellas in April event, a multicolored mosaic of umbrellas lined the 100 block of South Putnam.

Photographer J.D. Small captured the colorful array of art from the top of the True Value Hardware building downtown so the event could be recorded and used in the future to bring more attention and tourism to Williamston’s charming streets and old-fashioned storefronts. A contest consisting of painted and decorated umbrella entries took place in City Hall afterwards.
