Run for the House raises dollars to allow families with sick children to stay together and near the medical care they need. Last year in 2017, the event raised nearly $35,000 toward the cost of 3,449 bed nights for families at the Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan; that’s 57 percent of annual utility costs, or 575 dinners.
Runners are now gearing up for the 2018 Run for the House on Saturday, March 24 in Okemos. Presented by Delta Dental, this year’s race includes a re-vamped Kids’ Mile and Sprint and Kid’s Carnival, in addition to the family-friendly 5K run/walk and 10K run.
“We wanted to shift our focus this year back to what’s most important to us – the kids and families we are able to help,” said Carolyn Hurst, Ronald McDonald House of Mid-Michigan’s executive director. “Time together as a family is a gift, which is why we wanted to make our race even more family-friendly.”
The revamped Foster Swift Kids’ Mile and Spring begins at 9:30 a.m. The Independent Bank Kids’ Carnival begins before the race, featuring enhanced activities fun for the whole family.
The 5K run/walk and 10K run begin at 10 a.m. Additional sponsors include the MSU Federal Credit Union , Auto-Owners Insurance, Planet Fitness, Come Clean Duathlon, Spartan Motors, CATA Clean Commute Options, Adams Outdoor Advertising, Playmakers and McDonald’s.
“This is my favorite time of year,” Hurst said. “We always have such an amazing turnout, and that support allows our families to stay together in tough times. Without events like this, we wouldn’t be able to offer families as much as we do.”
Online registration is open until noon on Thursday, March 22, at rmhmm.org/about/events/run-the-house. Registration is also available with packet pickup at Playmakers on March 23rd, or on-site during the run on March 24.
