Chick-Fil-A Offering Free Food in Exchange for Back-to-School Givebacks

Lansing’s two Chick-fil-A locations are joining to offer its customers a great deal in exchange for charitable deeds. Chick-fil-A Okemos and Chick-fil-A Lansing will offer complimentary items to all guests who donate backpacks or school supplies on Monday, Aug. 14 and Tuesday, Aug. 15 in support of Operation Backpack, a back-to-school drive that provides children served by St. Vincent Catholic Charities (STVCC) with the necessary supplies to learn.

“We are so excited to work with St. Vincent Catholic Charities and to help mid-Michigan children prepare to go back to school,” Chick-fil-A Okemos Operator Nick Biggee said.

Guests who donate at least one item at checkout will receive a free Chick-fil-A product. An item to help children during their transition back to the classroom is a small price to pay for an added bite to eat. From 6:30–10:30 a.m., guests have their choice between a chicken biscuits or Chick-n-Minis. From 10:30 a.m.–10 p.m., guests will receive a chicken sandwich or nuggets.

If you’re not sure what to donate, the fundraiser calls for a variety of items in new or unused condition. Chick-fil-A accepts new backpacks, spiral notebooks, pocket folders, lined notebook paper, packages of highlighters, colored markers, colored pencils and three-ring notebooks.

“Chick-fil-A has quickly established themselves as leaders in helping to better our local community,” STVCC CEO Andrea Seyka said. “We are excited to include them as partners in Operation Backpack, as we strive to prepare each child for the upcoming school year.

Sponsored by Delta Dental, Operation Backpack runs until Thursday, Aug. 17. The month-long campaign is co-chaired by philanthropists Lupe Izzo and Brig Sorber. Additional community sponsors include WILX TV-10, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, Capital Area District Libraries and Buffalo Wild Wings. Capitol National Bank and RE/MAX Real Estate also return as community partners.
