While you are busy deciding between going out for dinner tonight or picking up a nice rotisserie and all the fixings on your way home, someone else is suffering from food insecurity.
“Food insecurity?” you ask. Yes, it’s a term used when someone doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from.
In fact, not only do many people have to forgo food, they have to forgo having enough funds to heat their homes. They are deciding whether to feed their family or pay for gas to go to the doctor or hunting for a second job.
The Greater Lansing Food Bank is asking the public to choose hope, not hunger. By donating your funds to the food bank, you are allowing the organization to help working families and individuals in our community who are struggling to make ends meet.
Every dollar you give helps to provide three meals.
One dollar. Three meals.
The Greater Lansing Food Bank says that your donations stay in the area and help those at risk for going hungry in our community. That means if you gave up your morning coffee for just one week and donated that money to the food bank instead, you would be responsible for providing around 30 meals to those around you.
Can’t go without your coffee? How about forgoing that bottle of wine you planned to buy for Friday night? Maybe put off buying those lottery tickets that never seem to pay off – for just a week or two.
When you stop and really think, the gift we can give as a community could change the world as we know it. It’s dramatic how such a small act of kindness could change someone’s life.
