East Lansing’s Wharton Center Hosts Broadway’s Fiddler on the Roof


Whether you’re a theater-fanatic or simply looking for a family activity to enjoy this winter, you’re in luck! The Tony Award® nominated, critically acclaimed Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof will be performed at Wharton Center in East Lansing from December 4 to December 9, 2018.

If you’ve never heard of the play or don’t know much about it, here are just a few of its achievements:

  • The original production of the play, in 1964, was the first musical to ever surpass 3,000 performances.
  • In 1965, the play won nine Tony Awards® including Best Musical.
  • Its revivals, one of which you can see at Wharton Center, have also been honored with Tony Awards® in 1981, 1991, and 2004.

Fiddler on the Roof, set in Imperial Russia in 1905, follows the lives of a father and his wife and five daughters as they struggle to maintain their Jewish heritage while outside influences challenge their culture and traditions. The story is one of family, life, love, and laughter and is sure to be a new favorite for you and your family. 

Adapted for the stage by Tony Award® winner Joseph Stein and Pulitzer Prize winners Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, the play is full of Broadway hits including “To Life (L’Chaim!),” “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” and “Tradition,” for the audience to sing along to.
