We’ve been to a practice. We watched, our camera clicking as the women came in, changed from their shoes to skates and enjoyed the camaraderie of a shared experience on ice.
But it’s more than that. It’s a team that works together, a great workout and a chance to be social. What can beat that?
The Lady Silverblades are extending an open invite to new members. All skill levels are welcome.
The club is open to all ages 18 and up, which means a diverse group of moms, daughters, grandmothers, sisters and friends are welcome to join this group of women as they recruit new members.
Experienced instructors work with skaters to teach them skills from the most basic to advanced. You can actually see the joy in their eyes as they elegantly twist and turn on the ice in sync.
Perhaps even more beneficial than the fun skating workout and performances is the social aspect. Countless studies exist that provecombining a social setting with physical activity leads to positive mental and physical well-being. In fact, being social while you work out also means you’ll more likely stick with the program.
The Lady Silver Blades meet at Suburban Ice, 2810 Hannah Blvd. in East Lansing, every Thursday from September through May between 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. with a cost of $5 per session along with annual dues.
