Now that kids’ days aren’t filled with sitting in a classroom, they seem to have quite a bit of time on their hands. Why not get them involved with something healthy and fun? Enjoy a Saturday in early June running in the sun at the one-mile run at Cooley Law School Stadium, home of the Lansing Lugnuts!
The 2018 Sparrow Michigan Mile is a kids-only race for children 13 and under presented by Sparrow Health System. Those ages 6 and under have the option to participate in the KIDSPRINT on the warning track inside the stadium. Registration for the one-mile run is $12. All participants will run with their age group, and finishers will receive a T-shirt and a shiny medal. Volunteers will be waiting at the finish line to celebrate each participant who crosses.
The Michigan Mile has been in existence for over 20 years with a primary purpose to celebrate and reward physical activity for kids and families.
“We promote the Michigan Mile as the capstone event for the 18,770 children enrolled in the seven-week Feelin’ Good Mileage Club in order to participate in the Michigan Mileage Club program at their school. However, children do not have to enroll in the Feelin’ Good Mileage Club in order to participate in the Michigan Mile,” said Katie Hubbard, wellness coordinator of Sparrow Health and Wellness.
There are several kids’ races to run throughout the summer, and most will be part of larger events such as 5K runs.
“The Sparrow Michigan Mile, as well as Feelin’ Good Mileage Club, are offered as part of Sparrow’s commitment to improving the health of our community by encouraging children to stay physically active,” Hubbard explained.
Participants will take off from 505 E. Michigan Ave. in downtown Lansing at 9 a.m. June 2. To learn more about the event or register to participate, visitsparrow.org/michiganmile.
