Nominations Open for Outstanding Meridian Township Senior


Do you know a senior citizen who has made an outstanding contribution to Meridian Township? If you do you should nominate him or her for recognition at the 30thannual Senior Luncheon Tribute and Celebration, slated for Sept. 24.


Nominations for the Outstanding Senior Award will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23. Nomination forms may be picked up at the Meridian Senior Center, the Meridian Township Municipal Building. They are also available online at

The senior who receives the award will be one who has improved the quality of life for individual residents or neighborhoods through voluntary community service, according to a news release issued by the township.

To be eligible for nomination, individuals must have been Meridian Township residents for at least one year. Nominees must be 55 or older and cannot be an employee or an elected or appointed official of Meridian Township. People who receive payment for activities, other than out-of-pocket expenses, are ineligible, according to the nomination instructions sheet. Individuals and groups may nominate more than one candidate for the honor.

The luncheon will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sept. 24 at The Willows at Okemos, 4830 Central Park Drive in Okemos. Admission to the luncheon is free to Meridian Township residents age 55 and older.
