Step Outside and Look Around You


June is National Great Outdoors month. That means it’s time to embrace the natural beauty in the world around us. From wildlife to parks and trails to beaches, make a plan to get outside and enjoy the wonders of our state.

Don’t want to go far? There are some fantastic options right here in Lansing. Lace up your shoes, hop on your bike or get in the car and roll the windows down. It’s time to get out and enjoy the sights and sounds of Greater Lansing.

Here are five places where you can enjoy the great outdoors today:

Lansing River Trail

The Lansing River Trail offers over 20 miles of paved trail that pass through lots of parks, natural areas and even downtown Lansing.

Hawk Island Park

Rent a rowboat, take the kids swimming or let them play in the Splash Pad. There are also picnic areas, horseshoes and sand volleyball courses, along with a 1.5-mile paved walkway for a stroll in the sunshine.

Fenner Nature Center

This beautiful nature center offers 134 acres of green space. Hike the distance or saunter just a bit and take nature pictures on self-guided trails.

River Town Adventures

Kayak, canoe or rent bikes and enjoy the sights from Potter Park Zoo to Lansing City Market and beyond.

Frances Park

Take a stroll through this lovely park and you may witness a wedding ceremony in the rose garden, enjoy the woodland trail, stop by the playground and more.
